Candida Albicans
by Paula Muran

Candida is yeast that grows in our intestines naturally. However, when there is a disturbance in the system from medications, birth control pills and diet this friendly yeast, Candida Albicans, becomes unfriendly and begins to multiply rapidly damaging the entire system. It helps to maintain and aid our immune system by controlling the  ‘unfriendly’ organisms.

In the allopathic western medicine world it is referred as a fungus. This fungus causes thrush (mouth soreness and infection), vaginal infections and spreads to any part of the body that is weakened. Candida takes advantage of circumstances in the body.  This single cell fungus multiplies and develops toxins, which circulate in the blood stream and cause an array of symptoms.

Candida produces an alcohol called ethanol which mimic's an intoxicating effect in the blood.  Ethanol grows rapidly when yeast has a food source like white sugar or white floor products.   In severe cases it produces much more than the liver can oxidize and eliminate. It also produces a false estrogen. This makes the body think it has enough, which signals the body to cease production.  Candida sends messages to the thyroid, making it think it has enough stopping the production of thyroxin. The cause of this is menstrual problems and hypothyroid problems.

Another by-product is acetaldehyde and it is related to formaldehyde. This disrupts collagen production, fatty acid oxidation and blocks normal nerve functions.  Basically it interferes with all normal functions of the body and is a severe problem.  Candida feeds on antibiotics—it’s their food source. Other sources are cortisone, progesterone suppositories, faulty diets, too much meat, weakened immune systems, and hi-mercury levels from mercury fillings.

The Yeast Connection by Dr. William G. Crook, MD and Dr. Sidney Baker, MD is a good book to read to understand completely how candida impacts your system and causes disease.

Listed here are nutrient destroyers:
Aspirin—destroys vitamin A, calcium, potassium, B complex and C.
Caffeine—destroys vitamin B1, inositol and biotin, potassium and
zinc and prevents calcium and iron assimilation.
Chlorine in water—destroys vitamin E.
Chocolate—contains caffeine and it is very irritating to the kidneys.
High in fat, which can cause indigestion.
Fluoride, destroys vitamin C
Sleeping Pills-destroy folic acid and vitamin D.
Menstruation: requires extra iron, vitamin B12, calcium and magnesium.
Nitrates/Nitrites: Destroys vitamins A, C and E
Stress:  Physical, emotional and mental all vitamins are depleted.
Sugar and white flour: destroys B vitamins.

Many times clients come to me because their doctors are unable to determine the cause of their illness.  As I gaze into there bodies I see a white foamy substance, which is an overgrowth of yeast/candida. It grows everywhere including the heart, brain, kidneys, and lungs and most often in the intestines.   Listed below are symptoms.  Please don’t assume you have candida, seek out a professional first to make sure it isn’t anything else.

The best way to get a handle on Candida is to change your diet. Stop eating sugar of all kinds, white flour breads and pastries, no diet drinks, alcoholic beverages, mushrooms, and other pickled products, fermented foods, all dry roasted nuts (cashews have a lot of yeast), potato chips, pretzels and junk food, bacon, salt pork and lunch meats and cheese of all kinds. Stop eating food that feeds the yeast.  Use occasionally fruits in small amounts, raw seeds, dry beans and legumes, millet, brown rice, buckwheat and yellow cornmeal and baked potatoes.  If you can eliminate antibiotics, birth control pills and all drugs please do so.

Foods to eat daily are eggs, fish, chicken, lamb or veal (organically fed animals are better). All vegetables onions, garlic, cabbage, broccoli, turnips, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi, except potatoes, corn and yams.

Build your immune system and stay as simple as possible with your diet. I recommend liquid minerals, and vitamins rather than tablets.  Good digestive enzymes, flax seed oil daily (in the evening), acidophilus 2-3x a day, vitamin E, sublingual B-complex and vitamin A.
